AVMLA Registration

Dear Parents,
Lacrosse season is quickly approaching. We know there is some uncertainty with what our season will look like and we want to assure you that we will be following all provincial health protocols once we start practices and games. Currently we are able to start practices in the Phase II protocol. We are waiting for our Arena to remove ice which we expect will be by mid-March. BCLA is indicating that we will be having a season of some sort. It may look different from previous seasons, but we will be getting our kids on the floor to play this great game of lacrosse!
We know that tournaments and provincials will not be happening. The benefit to us is that our season will have flexibility for start dates and end dates. With no tournaments and provincials to fit into the schedule, we can start games later in the spring. BCLA is committed to having sanctioned practices and games and we support that fully.
Registration has started here for Alberni Valley. Some of our divisions have low registration numbers. We understand that some of you may be waiting to register until you hear that games are allowed. While we understand your reasoning, that is detrimental to our planning process. As an association, we have to declare teams to the Vancouver Island Commission and if we don’t have registrations now we will not be able to declare a team. That means no teams in that division for this season and there is no way to reinstate teams, should interest suddenly be peaked later.
We need registrations to show each division is viable. To that end, we are extending our Early Bird Registration to March 31/2021. We will not be requiring payment until March 31, 2021 either. We are asking and encouraging you, as parents of former players, to go to our website and register your player asap. Choose “pay by cheque” in order to delay payment until March 31, 2021.
To recap, BCLA is operating under the assumption that games will happen, although perhaps in a delayed season. We need to have teams/coaches in place to be prepared for when that is approved. Under current PHO Phase II/ViaSport restrictions, we will offer practices starting mid-March, to develop lacrosse skills and have some fun!
Thank you for your understanding. Together, we will navigate through this season!
Sincerely,
Kelly Fines
President AVMLA
