ALBERNI VALLEY MULTIPLEX TO HOST WLA REGULAR SEASON GAME ON JUNE 24th.
The Alberni Valley Bulldogs, along with the City of Port Alberni are excited to announce the return of WLA (Western Lacrosse Association) action to the Alberni Valley Multiplex on Saturday June 24th when the Burnaby Lakers host the Victoria Shamrocks in a regular season contest.
The Shamrocks are returning to Port Alberni for the first time since 2005.
Shamrocks General Manager Chris Welch is excited to have the Shamrocks help showcase the WLA here in Port Alberni. “It’s great for more communities on the Island to be able to see the top level of Canadian lacrosse in their own back yards.”
Welch was a part of the Shamrocks organization when they last played in Port Alberni. “I was able to see and experience first-hand the capacity crowds and the electric atmosphere in the arena with so much energy and enthusiasm. It was a lot of fun and I have no doubt it will be again in front of the great Alberni Valley fans.”
The Burnaby Lakers will officially be the home club for the Port Alberni game. Lakers General Manager Kevin Hill is aware of what a game in Port Alberni should be like. “We are looking forward to playing in Port Alberni. I know in the past the WLA was very well received and they had a great turn out for the games. I have heard that Port Alberni is a great sports community and we are looking forward to experiencing it first-hand.”
Bulldogs President David Michaud has envisioned the opportunity to host a game for some time, and now that’s it is officially on the WLA schedule, he is thrilled the community will have the opportunity to see high level lacrosse at the Multiplex. “First and foremost, we want this to be a fun summer night where the community can get together the way we do for Bulldogs games. This will be a great night and a fun event. If you haven’t witnessed lacrosse at this level, it’s really entertaining and not something you will want to miss.” said Michaud.
WLA Commissioner Paul Dal Monte is excited to see Port Alberni have the opportunity to host the WLA once more. “The passion and support for lacrosse on Vancouver Island is legendary, so we’re thrilled to be able to bring a WLA game featuring the Victoria Shamrocks and the Burnaby Lakers to Port Alberni.”
The Shamrocks will arrive to Port Alberni a little early on June 24th and participate in a youth camp at the outdoor Lacrosse Box. “I’m grateful to Chris Welch and the Shamrocks for wanting to participate in an event for the kids. Lacrosse is an amazing game and for our local youngsters to have the opportunity to play with, and learn from such high level players will be so good for them.” said Michaud. Details on the youth camp will be made available later in the spring.
Tickets will be $18.00 for adults and $12.00 for youth 18 & under.
Current Bulldogs season ticket holders will have until April 30th to purchase their seats for the game before they are released to the general public. Tickets are on sale now, and can be purchased online or at the Bulldogs Box Office.

Hello all, after 20 years of being involved with minor lacrosse in the Valley it’s time for me to step back. From the beginning 20 years ago when we brought lacrosse back to the valley when the multiplex opened to now we have seen a lot of ups and downs. This year was a positive one in so many ways after coming off no lacrosse for two years, it was great to see the kids back on the floor. Over the years I have had the pleasure of working alongside some fantastic people whose commitment to the game and kids has been awesome. The last three years for this executive has been a challenge at times to keep interest alive in the game with no games or practices allowed but we stayed positive throughout. I couldn’t have asked for a better group of people to work alongside. Now that my son has aged out it’s the perfect time for me to step aside and let some new families get involved. It’s time for me to just watch what his future brings and be a parent. I will still be at the rink watching the game that I love so much. Thanks again to all the parents, volunteers, and executive members who have stepped up over these past years to keep this game alive and to the new parents who are willing to step up and take a roll on the executive to keep it going.
AVMLA Parents and Guardians,
Hello! We hope you’re enjoying your summer and this great weather we have been having.
We are writing to you today with an urgent request for volunteers.
AVMLA has had a core group of volunteers that have enjoyed organizing lacrosse for the Alberni Valley for many years. We have 4-5 of our executive members that have players that aged out in 2022, so will not be returning to our executive board in 2023. It’s time for new faces to take on these roles.
Our executive is comprised of approximately 8-10 volunteers. We cannot run on the 3-4 people that will remain. Without new parents/grandparents/guardians signing on to help, our Association will not be able to continue to provide lacrosse in the Alberni Valley in 2023.
We generally have less than 100 players that register each season for lacrosse. We are a small association and as such, the workload is not huge – especially if we have enough volunteers to handle the tasks. None of the available roles are complicated, and there will be support provided to anyone who joins our board.
To volunteer, or get more information on volunteering, pls reply back to this email and we will reach out to you asap.
Also, keep your eyes peeled for the announcement that will specify the date of our AGM. It will be in October or November and that is where our new Executive will be formed with your help – the help of parents/guardians who agree to volunteer a small amount of time to keep lacrosse alive in the Alberni Valley.
Looking forward to hearing from you!
Alberni Valley Minor Lacrosse Executive Board.
